Winston Churchill announced in the House of Commons that the Government had decided to- hold available a sum not exceeding £1,000,000 for settlement of claims for damage and: injury suffered in the Irish' Free State immediately following the treaty. Awards not exceeding £IOOO would he onid in full immediately. Sir Austen Chamberlain, in answer to a question, said that Britain had informed Norway that she regarded the British occupation of Bouvet Island as effective. She must reserve her rights therein. The Press statement that we had surrendeed the island was incorrect.—A.P.A. and “Sun.”
