NEW LEPROSY CURE

FRESH CAMPAIGN TO BE LAUNCHED. rtY CABLE PRESS ASSOCIATION -COPYRIOH'I LONDON, Feb. 20. Newspapers report that British scientists have developed a cure for leprosy known as hydnocarpus oil. The remedy is to be used in a fresh campaign short- ■ y to be launched to stamp out the .scourge in the Empire. There are about 4,000,000 lepers in ha world, and about 1,500,000 in the British Empire. Thousands are coneiitinted for treatment in a chain oi .eper stations throughout India and Ulrica, and it is anticipated that many uore centres will be opened shortly. Hydnocarpus nil is obtained from uit of the hydnocarpus, a tropical tiet which it is intended To plant in all parts of the Empire- where leprosyex is ts.

It should be 100 per cent, effective u the early stages of the disease, and or 30 fier cent, in the advanced cases. Sir Leonard Rogers, Secretary of the Empire Leprosy Relief Association, and who did much research work in India, and who has been prominently identi.u>d with the development of the cure, says the treatment lasts six months in early cases, and perhaps even 12 when disease is more advanced. The cost of the cure has been greatly reduced in the last twelve months and doses sufficient for a year only cost hall . crown.
