In the House of Commons Commander Bellahs asked whether the Treasury would exercise pressure to prevent an amalgamation of telegraph companies, as it did in order to prevent an amalgamation of the large banks of the Empire. The Rt. Hon. Winston Churchill, in reply said that at present the subject was being compre I*3nsive 1 y reviewed and he could nut make a statement in connection with it. Commander Bel lairs further asked : “Will you bear in mind that there is a fear qn the part of the public that the actions of the Governments concerned will be determined by the ownership of the Pacific cable?” Mi Ohm-chill replied that the subject would hie carefully considered in all its bearing.—A.P.A. and “Sun.”
