TARIKI POWER SUPPLY.
A ' strange happening at the Tank: power supply drain has given the Power Board officials great concern and was made the subject of police investigation. The level o,f the dam dropped several inches several days ago, while a more than normal load was being car ried. The following Cray only a normal load was carried yet the level of the dam fell practically as much as the day previously. Investigations led to the presumption that some .person had drawn off water through a disused digression tunnel, which was normally closed by sluice gates. The interior ot this tunnel showed evidences of a considerable volume of water recently been passed through. \\ hen examined a short time previously the walls and floor of the tunnel showed that water had not. flowed through foi a considerable time, and now all the growth etc. has been swept clean away. " After the discovery the- sluice gates were' protected by locks and steps were taken which it was hoped would lead to the detection of the person responsible for a deed which has been likened to the act which was perpetuated at Johnsonville, where the reservoir was emptied by some spiteful or mischievous person. It "was sought k?ep tlu. facts from public knowledge in* ihe hope that detection might he facilitated, but publication lias: already been made, though the Power Board officials were reluctant to make any statement. It is thought the occurrence had a material bearing upon inability of the board to supply current tc assist New Plymouth to the extent desired.
