Continued dry weather is burning up pastures in North Auckland, and the cream supply to factories is showing a considerable falling off. Within tlhe last few days the position regarding the crops has l>een very unfavourable. In nianv instances the corn crops are a failure, and potatoes also are showing poor results. Several farmjens would plough, in the corn crop, if only the drought would break, thus enabling tlieau to raise another crop before winter. In various parts of the district hies are raging. Certain peaty parts of Kaitaia Swamp have- been blazing for davs'. and show no sign of burning out. Reports from Oruaiti state that the schoolhouse and settlement were only saved from destruction by fires through the settlers working for hours fighting- the flames. It is stated that lo*ng drv dantlionia grass some distance from the settlement was fired by natives and a breeze sent it raging in the direction of the settlement.
