!t is interesting to note that while the Southland Electric Power Board is the largest in New Zealand in so far as area covered is concerned it is dwarfed by the number of consumers in the Auckland Board's area (says the “Southland News”). The Southland district covers 5000 square miles with a population of 65,(XX), while Auckland, with .an area of less than 500 square miles, serves nearly 250,000. Two residents of Eangiwoa discovered a. skull embedded in limestone on a ledge beside a creek adjacent to the Rangiwoa Road, about five miles from Hihitahi. The skull, which is believed to be that of a European, aged about 17, rested on a spot beneath a waterfall course, which has been dry for a considerable time. Limestone formation was moulded round part of the top of the skull. Constable King, of Taihape, proceeded to the locality and brought the skull to Taihape. A thorough search for bones was fruitless, The skull has been examined bv an expert, who is unable to state whether it belonged to a male or female. A scheme for the training of special iiseicl school teachers throughout New Zealand lias been initiated by the Education Department, which is now making arrangements for the institution of the first of the special courses of physical instruction which is to be commenced at Dunedin shortly.
