RECEIVED STOLEN GOODS. [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ABSOCIA'I ON. 1 WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. In connection with charges against John Charleisi Gannon of theft- of goods valued at £SOO Hemry Ralph Higham, mho pleaded guilty to charges of receiving goods of a total value of £72 10s fiom Cannon knowing them to have been dishonestly -obtained, was to-day sentenced by the magistrate to -six months’ imprisonment. A brother of John Gannon, named Thomas James Gannon, who was described as an engineer, aged 20 year's, pleaded guilty to stealing a gold watch and pencil valued at £5 10s and a gold watch valued at £5 10s. iG'hief-detetativo Hard said accuse-1 helped himself to- some of the property which his brother was handing to Higham. . , , “A. bad -feature of the case,” said the Chief-detective, “is that when lies brother was arrested accused pretended to be- astonished and dismayed. Later he brought a gold watch to the police station saying that he had found it in the house, but subsequent inquiries showed that be had known all along that the property ivais stolen.” AOCI used had two previous convictions for theft. John Gannon is awaiting trial by the Supreme Court.
