SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

FIXTURE POSTPONED. At a meeting of the (Hawera Swimming Club committee held last evenino- it was decided to postpone the club carnival scheduled for . Thursday evening next until the following Thuisdav, February 9. There were present at the meeting Mr W. A. Spragg (chairman), Mesdames E. Higgs and C. Kelson, Messrs D. Strachan, F. Champion, A. G. Walker, mu! Ralph Sago (secretary). It was pointed out that swimming carnivals were being held at Inglewood on Tuesday, at Eltliam on Wednesday and at Wanganui on Thursday, in view of which the attendance of visiting swimmers might be seriously affected if the Ilawera carnival was staged on Thursday next. . On the motion of the club captain (Mr F. Champion), seconded by Mr A. G. Walker, it was decided to postpone the carnival as indicated and the programme committee was authorised to proceed with the necessary arrangements, it being recommended that par ticular attention be given to the staging of bright, short distance and novelty events. An offer was made by Mr D. Strachan to present a trophy to be awarded the winner of a novelty event was accepted, a vote of thanks being accorded Mr Strachan. . Another trophy was promised by Mrs C. Kelson to be awarded the winner of a ladies’ race, the donor also receiving the thanks of the committee.
