At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Audley Harold Pocock- was fined) £lO and his license was cancelled till July 1 for being drunk while in charge of a motor cycle. CAR DRIVER'S OFFENCE. WELLINGTON, Jan. 27. In the court yesterday a defended case was commenced in which a young farmer named Francis John Douglas, of Hawke’s Bay, denied being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. anl also pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving and to having used indecent language in Wi'ilis Street. The police evidence was that the defendant passed a stationary tramear. Later the motor was stopped by a traflic: inspector who asked the defendant for his license. The latter refused to produce it and used indecent language. Eventually, howover, he showed his license. lie was encouragel by others to defy the inspector. He was arrested anil taken to the police station where he was seen by doctors. Doctor Park said that from the. appearance or defendant he had been drinking fairly heavily on Saturday, iuit When seen at 1.15 a.m. on Sunday he was practically sober. Witness, however, did not think he was fit to drive, even at the time of the examination. After a lengthy hearing and further evidence to-day Mr. E. Page, S.M., fined Douglas £25 on the major charge and p roll ihi tel him from driving lor twelve months.
