BOMBS IN CHICAGO
GANGSTERS’ REPRISALS
ACTION AGAINST MAYOR. ASSOCIATES ATTACKED. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT WASHINGTON, Jan. 26. A Chicago message says that, following the city administration's attempts to curb crime and the declaration of the Mayor (Mr Thompson) that gang terrorism must end, gangsters retaliated with dynamite. They bombed the homes of Mr Thompson’s closest associates. The first intended victim was Mr. Charles Fitzmorris, city controller, and second in office to the Mayor. The front of his home was torn away by a dynamite bomb thrown from r-n automobile. Mr Fitzmorris, his wife and son and a maid were in the house, but were uninjured. The second bomb was aimed either at Mr William Reid, who is a strong member of Mr Thompson’s political organisation, or at Mr John ( Allen, recently a candidate for alderman. It. exploded between their homes, In:
little damage. The police immediately started an investigation but are reticent about details. Mr Thompson’s home is constantly under guard.
