CLUB COMPETITIONS. TROPHY WINNERS FOUND The season’s series of evening athletic meetings conducted by the Hawera Amateur Club to decide the winners on aggregate points of the three club cups and two other trophies was concluded on the A. and P. grounds last evening. Good competition was 'witnessed by a small gathering of club supporters and among the contestants the occasion held particular interest owing to the possibility of a change in the leadership for each of the various trophies. The respective leaders, however maintained their positions. The evening’s results were as follow: 120 YaTds (Hurdles. —First heat: L. Hulbert (scr, 1 hurdle down) 1, A. Rumball (syds, 1 down) 2. Time, 18 -i-ssec. .Second heat: A. Newall (scr) I, S. Pettitt (syds, 1 down) 2. Time, 18 l-ssce. Final: Newall 1, Hulbert 2. Won by 10 yards, Hulbert easing up at finish. Time, I'7 2-ssee. 100 Yards 'Handicap. —First heat: S. Shore (4yds) 1, G. Meyrick (6yds) 2, J. iMatheson (Byds) 3. Time, 10 2-ssec. Second heat: J. N. Goodson (2yds) 1, L. S. Hulbert (44yds) 2. Time, 10 3-5 sec. Third heat: T. Lay (Byds) 1, V. Solomon (44yds) 2, G. Hawkins (10vds) 3. Time, 101-ssec. Final: Lay i, Goodson 2, Solomon 3. Won by a yard, with a foot between second and third. Time, 10 l-ssec. Two Miles Handicap.—R. Walker (200yds) 1, S. Savage (180yds) 2, A. Ruiuball (dSOyds) 3. Four of seven starters remained in the race when the last half mile was commenced, and the quartette, Rumball, Walker Merritt and Savage started the final lap in that order. Entering the straight Walker effected a surprise with an electric sprint and raced home to beat Savage by ten yards with Rumball three yards back, while Merritt stopped with 30 yards to go. Time, 10.48. 'One Mile 'Cycle Handicap. —W. Stening (scr) 1, J. Dykes (15yds) 2, G. A. Kennedy (150yds) 3. Kennedy, on the limit, was leading the field when the first lap commenced, but the back mark, ers challenged on the home turn and Stening shot tip to win by a length from Dykes with Kennedy a similar distance back closely followed by F. C. Brawn, who started from 65yds. Time, 2min. 32 l-ssec. Three Miles Cycle Handicap.—J. Dykes (35yds) 1, C. Griffen (35yds) 2, F. C. Brown (110yds) 3. Dykes and Griffen, the virtual scratch men, held command on entering the concluding half mile. The three placed men rode in the finishing order over the last lap Dykes holding on to win by half a length from Griffon with the third man a length and a half back. T. Townsend (3'lOyds) was fourth, followed by M. Conway (280yds). Time, Bmin. 33 3-ssec. Pole Vault. —A. E. Gilliver 1. The only competitor. Gilliver cleared 7ft. Sin. to secure the points for the event. Hammer Throw. —A. E. Gilliver (45ft) 108 ft 2ins., 1; L. Hunt (scr) 93ft llins, 2’ A. Notman (20ft) 93ft, 3. The conclusion of the programme left the points for the trophies as follows (the cup winners in each instance also receiving a medal): —
