: MONTHLY MEETING. I The ordinary meeting of the Strat- , ford County Council was held on Satur- ; day, when there were present: Crs. T. : 11.' Anderson ( in the chair). S. Pitt, l T. T. Murray, IV. H. Were. J. T. Bel- , (her, J. Jacobson, H. C. Taylor, J. O’Neill and W. Vickers. The engineer (Mr J. W. Spence revjor'ed (inter alien) as follows: — The ranger (Mr. J. -S. Cufl) reported that stray stock had been scarce dur-j 1 urn- the liionth, only 19s being collectytCin poundage fees. The dog tax was being collected. Weeds on the roads would he attended to as easi-.y as pos--ible, this work having been delayed somewhat on account of the hay-mak-hig" season. Three convictions had been recorded against persons found riding •at night without lights and 13 new drivers’ licenses had- been issued. ROAD TO DAWSON FALLS. Air J. P. Alurphy wrote drawing attention to the state of the road between the reserve gate at Dawson Falls' and Mr Pullen’s property, several motorists having complained of this beet.on. Air Alurphy stated that from Ins own experience lie knew that the - road in question was in a very bad state and suggested that good coat of <jiinding would eilect a quick and inexpensive remedy. The chairman said it was almost -im- • possible to maintain the stretch - against the volume of motor truilic and the council was contemplating tardealing this summer. The matter was dropped on the understanding that the engineer would see that the blinding as requested was carried out. GENERAL. Penn be- • eretary, wrote thanking the council loi the prompt attention given to the representations of the deputation that recently waited on the council regarding the state of the main load beyond ( ardiii. In collection with a stream at Piikengahu, it was ,Jeft to the riding mem-bens and engineer to arrange with the settlers in the matter of clearing out the stream. Notice was received that the examination under the Highways Board would be held in February. The mass of returns required by the Highways Board was criticised by the engineer, who said that if it continued count es wohld need a special, staff to cope with the work.
