SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS.
CONTESTS NEXT WEDNESDAY. OFFICIALS APPOINTED. At a meeting of the Hawera, Ama-teur-Swimming Club last night at the baths there were present: Messrs. VV. A. Spragg (chairman), R.. C. Sage (secretary), V. Warner, D. Strachan, F. H. Champion, and A. D. Walker, Mesdames Dymond and Hicks. Apologies were received from Mesdames Kelsen and MeGlashan and Mr. Y. Spragg. The following -officials were appointed for the Taranaki Centre championships, to be held at Hawera on Wednesday : Referee and marshal, Mr. W. A. Spragg; marksman, Mr. G. F. Bertrand; judges, Messrs. F. Foden, D. Strachan, M. 11. Jones and L. Mutter; judges of diving, Messrs. L. S. Poison and AV. A. Spragg and Mis. Higgs; timekeepers, Messrs. 11. A. Brunette, T. Lay and G. W. Taylor; starter, Mr. R. P. Morrissey; call stewards, Mrs. Higgs, Mrs. Guyton, Messrs. V. Warner, A. D. "Walker, F. H. Champion and T. Dowdle; costume stewards, Mrs. Higgs and Mr. W. J. Olaringbold; doorkeepers, . Messrs. Beaurepaire and Bryant; ticket stewards, Messrs. L. Hulbert and V. Spragg. An executive committee consisting of Messrs. Spragg, Strachan and Sage was appointed to attend to further detailsMr. Spavin intimated that he would donate two medals to the club if he received the contract for the championship medals. The offer was received, but consideration of the matter was deferred.
Mr. Spragg reported having attended the centre meeting, and give a report on the question of the award of certificates in place of medals, as already reported in the “Hawera Star.”
