NO LIGHT AT HAMILTON.
WATER PUMPING PLANT IDLE,
SUPPLY IN THE RESERVOIRS
CAMBRIDGE, Jan. 11. Power and light in Hamilton and Cambridge were cut off this evening, following the closing down of the Horahora works. Auxiliary plant, liad been installed at the Waikato hospital, which was without light for a few minutes before the change over was off o cted. No power was available at the Hamilton water supply pumping station, but the reservoirs had been filled beforehand. The residents have responded loyally to the appeal of the Borough Council to restrict consumption which has been cut down from 1,600,000 gallons to 250,000 daily. There is about four hours supplj in the reservoirs Experiments with the chemicals for'coagulating the water with a view to freeing it from pumice were carried out to-day. The operation will be applied to-morrow. The experiment has so far been successful, and it is expected that clearer water will be availabo as soon, as ©the chemicals take effect.
