CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS. TO BE HELD~Tt RAWER A.

Preliminary arrangements for the season’s championships of the Taranaki Swimming Centre were made at a meeting of the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club Committee last evening, when it was decided, subject to the approval of the centre, • to- hold the gathering at Hawera baths on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, January 25- There were present at the meeting: Messrs W. A. Spragg (chairman’). Ralph Sage (secretary), V. L. Warner, A. G. Walker, C. DowcLle and Mesdames C. Kelson, E. Higg-s and \Y Dvmond. A letter forwarded on December 19 was received from'the centre, .secretary /;\l r Q. H. Pop©) giving a reminder that the centre championships were to he held at Hawera this year. To this the club secretary had replied, pointing out tliat the letter was the first notification as to the fixture being held at Hawera, and that owing to the then approach of the holiday season it would not be possible, prior to the second week in January. to hold a meeting of the club committee to consider the matter. Mr Walker gave the- opinion that it was originally understood the championship contests would be held at New Plymouth and Hawera in alternate rears. Last .season’s meeting having been held at New Plymouth, the current season’s should follow in sequence at HaweraThe advisability of holding the gathering at an early date was stressed during the ensuing discussion, and oil the motion of Mr Warner, seconded by the chairman, it wa§ decided to make application for January 25 as the date of the championships, the events to he contested at Hawera. The following programme of championship events was drawn up for submission to the centre.

SENIORS.

Men.— 50yds, 100yds, 220yds, 440yds, and 880vds free style; 220yds breaststroke, 150yds backstroke; diving, flying .squadron teams of five club reps., each to swim 100yds. , ... . Ladies.—sovds. 100yds and 220yds free style ; 50yds breaststroke ; diving.

INTERMEDIATE

Tho inclusion of a 75yds inter-club handicap for men and a 50yds inter-club handicap for ladies was approved.

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS

nominations received

(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 13. With, the exception of the Hawke’s Bay nominations, all tho entries for the New- Zealand national swimming championships, commencing at Dunedin on January 21, have come to hand. Though the entries for the longer disances are perhaps not quite as large as at Auckland last year, they are of satisfactory dimensions, the intermediate hoys-’ divisions perhaps being the strongest. The centres represented are Otago, South Canterbury, Canterbury, Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui, ana Auckland. The competitors include such well-known swimmers as D. P. Lindsay, E. C. Heard and L. J. Monkho-use (Canterbury); N. Dowsett (Wanganui); W. Cameron (Wellington); J. P. Farrell, J. P. Enright, N. H. Sylow and L. Fairgray (Auckland); Miss Enda Champion and Miss Ena Stockier (Auckland); Miss IC. Miller and Miss M. Jepson (Otago). The junior class are fully representative. while the men’s diving championship has drawn entries from such performers as R. Calder (Otago), the present champion, H. E. Walker (Otago) and T. W. Hicks (Wellington), ex-champions.
