Mr and Mrs L, A. Taylor, who have been oil a holiday visit to Auckland, returned to Hawera yesterday.
Mr. and. Mrs. F. Silver, of Eltham, went through by train to-day on a short visit to Wanganui.
Mr. P. H. Hartland, district traffic manager of railways, was .a passenger south to-day on an official trip. Mr. A. E. Gorton, formerly of Hawera and now of Wellington, has been in town on a short business trip.
Mr. Walter Monk, who was in Hawera yesterday arranging for the presentation of the J. CL Williamson production. “Rose Marie,” left for New Plymouth this morning. Dr. C. J. Reakep., Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, ds ,’caving England on January 14 for South -VfT’ica. After visiting various agricultural centres and institutes there, he will come on to New Zealand via Australia. He is due in Wellington at the end of February. Albert Tamumu, who with the late Sam Wopm were leading backers in the Ratana movement, died at Kai Iwi on Friday night at the age of -7«8 years, says the 1 “Wanganui Herald. 7 ’ He was the owner* of considerable property at Kai Iwi, and had also built a fine residence at Eatana. He had been one of the pillars of the Eatana 1 movement right from its inception, and .went, on tour with the Eatana party to America, England,: and Japan. A large tangi is in progress at Kai Twi.
