At the tallow sales 584 casks were offered and 583 sold at 1/- to 1/6 advance. Mutton, fine 40/6, medium 36/6, beef fine 41/6, medium 36/9. EAT STOCK AT B URNSIDE. (BY TELEGRAPH - PRESS ASSOCIATION ) DUNEDIN, Jan. 4. Most classes of fat stock were sold at lower prices at the Burnside sales to-day. It was the first sale held since December 21, and large supplies were forward, but the demand was limited. This was due to the fact that butchers had supplies oil hand from the! previous sale. The prices realised for fat cattle showed a drop of £1 a. head and values for sheep were easier but lambs sold at prices about on a par with the recent low rate.

Fat Cattle.—Extra prime bullocks sold from £ls to £l7 17s 6d, prime £l3 to £l4 7s 6d, medium £lO 10s to £l2 2s 6d, prime heifers sold from £8 5s to £9 ss, best cows from £9 10s to £ll. The prices' obtained from prime ox beef were on a basis of from 34s to 355, plain ox beef to 32s 6d, extra prime heifers to 355, and light heifers and cows from 22s 6d to 25s per 1001 b. Sheep.—Extra, heavy wethers, sold at 38s 9d to 40s 6d, prime 35s to, 37s 6d, best ewes 30s to 31s 3d, extra, heavy sorts 38s, and medium ISs to 20s. The prices obtained for prime wethers were on a basis of from 5-J-d to 6d, unfinished sorts sd, extra heavy ewes 4d, and prime light ewes 4}d per lb. Prime heavy lambs sold from 32s 6d to 345, prime 29s 3d to 30s, medium 24s 9d to 265. These prices were on a basis of from BJd to 9sd per lb. Pigs.—. The entry consisted of 64 fats and 32 stores. There was a. good..demand for prime baconers and porkers and these sold at an advance, of about 5s a head. There was an improvment in the demand for store pigs. Hie prices obtained for prime baconers were on a basis of 6d and for prime porkers 7id per lb. DAIRY PRODUCE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile A gency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from London: New Zealand butter, 1.625, to 164 s per cwt; market quiet, with downward tendency. New- Zealand cheese, 94s to 95s per* cwt; market quiet.
