WHAREROA.

On Christmas Day, Miss Luscom.be and Mr. Castle were bathing at Sohnapper Bay on the Ohawe beach, when they were caught in a _ whirlpool and were in serious difficulties, when Mr. W. Carter, of Hawera, seeing their serious predicament, rushed to their rescue. The plucky rescuer and the rescued were all in an exhausted condition on reaching shore. Mr. W. Carter is deserving of great credit for his prompt action, which averted! atragedy. Mr. G. A. Murphy is home again after his long illness in Auckland, and is much better in health.

Harvesting is now in full swing, and good crops of ensilage and hay are being saved.
