THE NEW COMET
SIGHTED IN GERMANY.
BELIEVED TO BE DEVICO’S. COURSE, OF THE VISITOR, BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 10 a.m. to-day. BERLIN, Dec, 27. Skj-ellerup’s comet lias been sighted by Potsdam Observatory, Hamburg, where- it is regarded as being identical with the periodic comet discovered by Dcvico in 1844. The Potsdam authorities are inclined to agree, arguing that the loss of the Devieo comet was probably due to it being deflected from its regular orbits by planetary disturbances. Hamburg observatory reports state that the apparent course of the comet is somewhat different from what observations in the Southern Hemisphere suggested, as the comet did not come a® far into the northern sky as anticipated. Wlnen last seen at Hamburg it was only 12 degrees above the sun and difficult to distinguish by the naked eye, but the telescope .showed a diabolo shaped mass forming a head and a tail two degrees long, pointing :pwards to the right.
