UNIONS AT VARIANCE.
RIGHTS OF TRADES COUNCIL. BRITISH SEAMEN’S QUESTION. LONDON, Dec. 12. The National Uuioy. qf Seamen has circularised its members, says the Labour correspondent of “The Times,” questioning the right of the Trades Union Council to suspend the union’s affiliation. The statement says there is a rule that “No dispute between unions shall be heard until the secretary of the general council is assured that the unions have attempted to settle the dispute themselves,” and its asks, “Will the Disputes Committee explain why the constitution was set aside and why the inquiry into our alleged sins is conducted with such a deferential regard for the susceptibilities of the miners’ leaders?”
The General Council will reply that it acted according to the standing order authorising an inquiry when one affiliated union lodges a complaint against another.
