BRITISH WILL ATTEMPT TO BEAT
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec- 20. Earlv in the New Year a British seaplane will attempt to establish a new speed record by flying over 300 miles Zv hour. A Napier craft will he used river a measured course or three talo-metre-s. The present re ord is 296.4 miles per hour, and to establish a new record involves exceeding this -speed by five miles per hour on the. -average ot ‘two flights, one with the wind ana one against the wind. The nresent land aeroplane r.peed record of 278 miles per hour, _set_up m 1924 wa-s unofficially beaten by FlightLieutenant Webster during the Schneider tronliy race, when he averaged 981 f> miles ner hour over a triangular course, and'put m a new 100 kilometres record of 283 miles 1500 vaids ->'>r hour.
