WIRELESS v. CABLES. CONFERENCE OF GOVERNMENTS. THE SCHNEIDER CUP. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 12.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 19. In the House of Commons, the Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin told a questioner that the Government had signed a new treaty with Iraq, and there would be an opportunity for debate before ratification. Sir William Mitchell Thomson (Post-master-General), in answer to a question, said that he had invited the Dominions and the Indian Governments to nominate representatives for a eonferenie as soon as practicable to consider the question of cables and wireless. Mr. J. Wedgwood asked: “Is' the object to avoid competition and to keep up prices, or to secure competition to keep them down ?” Sir William Mitchell Thomson : “The object is to consider a question of vital interest to the Governments concerned. Mr. Nicholson asked: “Will the wireless companies he invited?” Sir W. Mitchell Thomson : “It will ho a conference of Governments.” Sir Samuel Ho a. re (Secretary for Air), in reply to a Question, said in discussions with a view to m a kins: the Schneider Cup contest biennial instead of annual, he undertook that Britain would compete. She intended to snare no efforts to retain the cup. Work was nroceeding in the development of machines and engines with this object in view.—A.P.A and “Sun.”
