MEREMERE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL PICNIC. The school broke up for the holidays on Friday, when the committee arranged a picnic at the school. Though the weather proved unfavourable a fair gathering oi' residents was present. After the prizes had been presented by the chairman, Mr G. Williams, the rest of the afternoon was spent in races and games' both for young and old. Dainty refreshments were provided by willing workers. CHRISTMAS TREE. On Monday evening the local hall, being decorated for Santa Claus, presented a gay scene. The building was soon packed to the doors, and the Rev. Mr Oxhrow opened the function by presenting prizes to Sunday school pupils. Then children's songs and recitations from Miss Liehtwark pleasantly entertained until Santa Claus arrived. After ho had distributed the gifts, Santa Claus spent a lively time singing and playing games with the youngsters. Finally a delightful supper was served. Credit is due to the Sunday school staff and the bund of willing workers who made the evening a distinct success.
