WAR PENSIONS
INCREASING IN COST. AUSTRALIA’S EXPERIENCE. LAST YEAR’S STATISTICS. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.30 a.m. to-day. CANBERRA, Dec. IG. The report of the Repatriation Commission has been tabled in the House of Representatives. It shows that during the year ended June 30 last the cost of war pensions was greater than in any other year, and that more exsoldiers received medical treatment. The report states that during the year 13,323 new pensions were granted, including 9392 to children. The number of pensions in force on June 30 was 259,821, representing an annual liability of £7,372.000. The number of patients undergoing treatment had increased by 50 per cent since 1922. The number of eases treated during the year was 26,150, as compared with 22,742 for the previous year. The total payments during the vear amounted to £8,303,000.
