"KING OF KINGS”
LIFE OF CHRIST. AMERICAN CINEMA VERSION. SOME OBJECTIONABLE FRA.TITR.R2* BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT. Received 9.50 a.m. to-dav. LONDON, Dec. 15. An American film entitled “King of Kings” covering tlio life of Christ was shown to a London audience, composed largely qf religionists. Though a thousand feet were cut from the American version in deference to English susceptibilities, there was much public opinion against tire cinema representation of Christ, particularly the additions to the Gospel ■story such as Magdalene’s hive affair with Judas Iscariot, apparently introduced to satisfy a supposed demand for sex appeal. Clergy present did not detect au.v cause for offence as far as the figure of Christ was concerned. The name of the actor is nut disclosed. The Reverend Cyril Hacksom, precentor of Southwark Cathedral, described the crucification scene as most inspiring, while others describe the scourging of Chrb as a harrowing scene. The film, ends with the Ascension, which Father Dudley, of the Roman Catholic Missionary Society, likened to the conclusion of a grand ballet.
