JERSEY BREEDERS.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Council of Jersey Breeders was held at New Plymouth on Wednesday, Mr D. O’Sullivan (Stratford) presiding over an attendance of seven. Mr H. C. Sampson reported on the question of the 305-day test, and the meeting came to an unanimous conclusion that the 305-day period should be recognised. After considerable discussion it was decided to forward a remit to the annual meeting to this effect. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association asking that judges and officials should be appointed for the field days which, it was anticipated, would be held throughout the ensuing year. There -was a lengthy discussion on the question forwarded by Stratford: ■ “That the council consider the method adopted by the parent body for allocating subsidies on cash raised by members of Jersey cattle clubs as prize money- for the A. and P. Jersey classes.” Finally they agreed .to submit. the following resolution to the parent body: “That it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association to subsidise all Jersey classes in A. and P. schedules which are for open competition.” Mr H. Hunt stressed the need for greater strictness with regard to the question of the proper branding of the cattle. The matter was discussed at length, the conclusion arrived at 'being to the effect that it was a case presenting grave difficulties. It was unanimously decided to forward (the following resolution to the New Zealand Association: “That the council’s attention be drawn to the fact of cattle over two years of age having been recently branded, and it be a recommendation that under such circumstances transfers be withheld and notice of any such case 'be forwaTd'ed to all auctioneers, who be also requested to advise the council of any such cases coming to their notice.”
