' In a recent article in the ‘‘Napier Telegraph” it was stated that cinnabar ore from Maekaytown was included among the samples sent to the Waihi school of mines to be assayed, and it now transpires that the ’ Nobel E'xplosives CO., which uses mercury, the liquid metal product of cinnabar, in the manufacture* of explosives, particularly detonators and other percussion oaps, is interested in the discovery. The firm's New Zealand representative, Mr J. Leg-go, visited the area in which the ore was found, and is reported to have pegged out a claim, which it is understood will shortly be .inspected by a mining engineer of high standing, on behalf of the company. In the meantime, two men have been put on to open up the o-ro body containing the cinnabar, fn readiness for inspection. The Nobel Co. is also interested in the cinnabar find at P.iiihi Puhi (Bay of Islands), and engaged the expert who is to visit Maekaytown to report on the property, at the same time authorising the expenditure of a. substantial sum o.f money in investigating the- proposition.
