PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mr and Mrs J. Russell, of Wanganui, arrived yesterday on a short visit to Hawera. * They arc staying at the Central Hotel.

Mr. Ivan Farrington, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Farrington, of Hawera, has passed his final examination to qualify as a dentist.

Mr. F. Hickey, of Kaponga, who has been a patient at the Hawera Hospital during the last eight weeks, has returned to his home.

Messrs. T. A. Winks and J. R. Corrigan, of Hawera, left to-day for Wellington where they will attend the monthly meeting of the Dairy Produce Export' Board, w-hich is being held tomorrow.

Mr: A. P.. Bennett, of Wellington, who has been on a short visit to his brother, Mr. B. C. Bennett, of Hawera, left for Wellington by this morning’s express.

Advice of transfer from Hawera early in the New Year has been received by Adjutant and Mrs M. Brown, officers in charge of the Hawera Salvation Army corps. The location of their new station has not yet been advised. Captain S. Smith, ofiicer in charge of the Taumaruni corps of the Salvation Army, who was formerly stationed at Hawera, has been on a visit to Hawera and left to-day to return to his station.

A Sydney message states that the Rt. Rev. George M. Long, C.8.E., at present Rishop of Bathurst, has been selected as Bishop of Newcastle. Bishop Long is a native of Melbourne and is 53 years of age. * He was chaplain to the A.I.F in France in 1918.

Mr. D. Lind, a former resident- of Waverley, has been appointed manager of the Waverley branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., in place of Mr. F. Packwood, who is leaving Waverley.—Paten Press.

The Hon. 'O. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculturfe, accompanied by Mrs Hawken and his secretary, Mr W. J. Stanley, joined the south express at Hawera this morning to proceed to Wellington. Mr Hawken is returning to Taranaki on Friday and is to address a meeting of his constituents at Eltham that evening.
