EGMONT RACES.
FEBRUARY PROGRAMMECLUB COMMITTEE MEETING. Preliminary arrangements in connection with the Egmont Racing Club’s summer meeting, to be held on February 2nd and 4th, were practically finalised at a meeting of the committee held on Thursday evening. In view of the adoption of Summer Time, •a proposal was made that this time of starting be advanced from 11.45 a.m. to 12 o’clock, but owing to the consequent interference with the departure of the special train scheduled to travel north ahead of the express, it was decided to adhere to the former programme and commence the first race at 11.45. with the final event timed for 5 o’clock.
The closing hour of nominations, which are due on January 13, and of acceptances for the first day, due on January 27, was extended from 8 o’oock p.m. to 8.30. This decision was made as the result of a discussion during which it was pointed out that the Hawera Te’egraph Office closes at 8 p.m., and owing possibly to delay tin. transit or lodging telegram® at the office of despatch' at a time estimated to reach Hawera by 8 o’clock several instances bad occurred in which messages had reached the secretary shortly after 8 o’clock, when they could not be accepted. No alteration wa.s made with respectto the .second day’s acceptances, which, as formerly, will close at noon on the day between the two racing days. It was decided to call tenders for the li caused booth rmhts for the season. The Hawera Motor Cycle Club was given permission to use the course for its annua l ; meeting to be held on February 22. '
