PROGRESS.

MR. H. N. LESTER’S ESTABLISHMENT.

It is now five years since Air H. N. Lester came to Ilawera and entered into the Stationery Book and General fancy Goods business that has become so well known through Taranaki. Prior to this Air Lester had been attached to one of the largest wholesale businesses in Auckland, but seeing an opportunity to strike out for himself and having faith in Ilawera he did not hesitate to follow an inclination which accorded with his judgment. 'Starting with a determination that clean trading, service and full stocks of attractive lines should be his claim upon public patronage, Air Lester has never looked back, and his business has steadily increased and until he has built the stock up to a standard that is second to none of its kind in Taranaki. Naturally this result has made Mr Lester a staunch advocate for the town as a trading centre, and this is substantiated by the fact that he has just recently completed negotiations with the owners of his premises for a further seven and a half years’ lease. A visit to-day to the establishment under review will afford proof of what has been stated in regard to the progress made. The variety, quality and magnitude of the stock displayed reflects the enterprise of the proprietor. In the periods of ordinary business conditions a thousand and one articles of everyday usefulness, stationery, leather ware, books, toys, china, general fancy goods, etc., are in steady demand, but in the holiday seasons, especially the Christmas season, extra assistance has to be called in to attend to the wants of the thousands of customers who visit the establishment. A special feature of this year’s stock is the inclusion of a most up-to-date selection of boys 7 and girls' prize books, and the attention of school committees is specially directed to this w r onderful collection, with such a gratifying experience Mr Lester looks confidently to the future, and is in the happy position of being able to meet his patrons with the assurance - that he is better equipped than ever to continue to do so.*
