DEAD SEA CONCESSIONS.
ONFJ ALREADY GRANTED BY CABLE- PRESS ASSOCIATION- COPYRIGHT LONDON, Nov. 30. In the House -of Commons the Hon. W. G. A. Ormsby-Go;re said four applications had been received for the Dead Sea. salts concession. It had been decided to grant a concession to two men, Tullock and Novomeysky, based on a joint option. Negotiations were proceeding concerning terms, conditions and guarantees. There was no P r °~ posal that ’the Government should obtain a controlling interest by the purchase of shares. , , Mr Howard Bury asked whether the Government was aware that the pot-a-sh deposits alone were- worth £14,000.000. Germany had hitherto had a .nonopoly of potash supplies, and he asked whether the Government would conside’ acquiring a- controlling interest in view of the vital importance to the Empire. Mr Grmsby-Gore : I think the figures quoted are astronomical. Whatever the salts are worth the processes of obtaining -and marketing are experimental and speculative.” He did not think il. would he- advisable to ask the taxpayer to invest in such an enterprise.
