WHAREROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). On Wednesday evening last a surprise party was tendered t-o Air and Mrs Benton. After a- visit paid to the house, the party adjourned to the local hall, wherp ian enjoyable evening wais spent. Supper was provided by the ladies. During intervals Messrs'R. Hicks and A. E. Death made (speeches deferring to thi3 help given in the district by their guests and to the loss sustained by them in the reecnt fire. Mr Benton suitably replied. Mr Price as improving after his lengthy illness. A number of farmers are now busy making ensilage and report a very satisfactory crop. It is understood that Air Laurent has disposed of his. farm at a satisfactory figure. The pupils at the school here are greatlv interested in the study of
vative birds. Alollv AVells, Colin Ben:on, Alex. Carswell, Ernest Williams,
and Henry Carswell have become members of the New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society.
