TENNIS MATIQH. AUBOA v. EIVEIiLEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The local club registered it’s first win in the local tennis competitions on Saturday last by defeating the visiting Auroa team by eight sets to four. .Following are the scores, Auroa players being mentioned first in each case: —
Ladies ’ singles.—Mrs. Kruse 3 was defeated by 'Miss O’Neill 6, Miss Piteaithly 3 was defeated by Miss Gargan 6, Miss Muggeridge 5 was defeated by Miss Josephson 6, Miss Henry 6 defeated Miss Josephson 2. '■Ladies’ doubles. —Mrs. Kruse and Miss Pitcaithly 4 were defeated by Misses O’Neili and Gargan 6, Misses Muggeridge and Henry 3 were defeated by Misses Gargan and Josephson 6. Men’s singles.—€. Whalen 6 defeated Gibson 0, Kruse 0 defeated J. Malone 2, iSymmons 3 was defeated by J. Malone 6, Davies 1 was defeated by B. Malone 0. Men’s doubles. —tWhalen and Kruse 5 were defeated by Gibson and J. M/alone 6, Symmons and Davies 6 defeated J. Maione and B. Malone 4. Combined doubles. —Mrs. Kruse and Whalen' 4 were defeated, by Miss O’Neill and Gibson 0. Miss Pitcaithly and 'Symmons 1 were defeated by Miss Gargan and J. Malone 6, Miss Muggeridge and Kruse 1 were defeated by Miss Josephson and J. Malone 6, Miss Henry and Davies 3 were defeated by Miss Josephson and B. Malone 6. Results: Riverlea 12 sets, 80 games; Auroa 4 sets, 60 games. GENERAL. Considerable rain has fallen during the last fortnight and on Monday morning there was a violent downpour accompanied by a cold sold wester, '1.67 inches falling in about four hours with a very low temperature the thermometer at 9 a.m. (actual, not Sidey time) reading only 44 degress Farenheit. In spite of the very changeable weather during the month' the milk supply has been fairly steady and the cheese make has varied only one per diem either way right through the month. The highest output this year has been fifty-eight a day, being three above last year’s highest. The highest output ever made here was sixty per day in 1924, but there were then several more farms supplying, some of these are aow going to the Rowan branch, two have gone into home separation and two have gone into grazing, one of these 'being a three hundred acre farm and the other a hundred acre farm. One farm of a hundred acres has been gain, ed in place of the latter. The tennis club have made arrangements to erect a. shelter fence of iron ■on the western side of the court and this work is to bo proceeded with almost immediately. A live fence will be planted later. The shelter , will be much appreciated by players.
