AMATEUR SPORT.
PAYMENT FOR BROKEN TIME. BRITISH (OPINION UNALTERED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Nov. 28. The council of the Olympic Association has decided to send an official team to Amsterdam, believing that the best interests of sport 'will thus be upheld. Over 40 members attended a meeting to discuss a resolution passed on November 12 by a meeting of representatives of the governing bodies of amateur , sports, disapproving of broken time payments; secondly, endorsing the British Olympic Association’s protest, but adding: "White it considers the executive committee’s action strongly prejudices the prestige of the (Olympiad in the world of amateur sport, nevertheless feels each individual sport is justified in supporting the games so long as the international xederatron controlling that sport opposes broken time. ’ ’ It was subsequently announced that the council did not intend to shelve the question of broken time payment. The next 'Congress would find Great Britain fighting on behalf of amateur sport. The council felt that as a large majority of governing bodies desired to participate at Amsterdam and to remain loyal to their international federations, no effort should be spared to make the meeting a success. International federations were not countenancing payment for broken time and should be supported. In fact, Great Britain supported them now, and they would be encouraged bv Great Britain ’s delegates’ protest when the federations considered the question. The council carried a resolution unanimously opposing the participation of "broken timers’’ in any guise, though the executive committee had no power to depart from the Prague (Congress principles of amateurism. The council, in appealing for financial support, declares it is unhesitatingly pursuing a policy to secure worldwide support for amateurism, and will endeavour to have steps taken to ban "broken timers” from future Olympiads. The Congress will appoint a com- i mittee to interpret its decisions. '
