ESCAPEE RECAPTURED. (BY TELEGRAPH - PRESS ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, Nov. 29. Leslie Alwyn Olson McKenzie, aged 17, who escaped from prison while awaiting transfer to a Borstal institution, was recaptured at Washdyke this morning. Later he appeared at the court on a charge of breaking from gaol. He was remanded till Friday. CAUGHT IN THE ACT.
CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 29. James Hamblin, aged 39, a taxi driver, was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court ou five charges of breaking and entering Mitchell’s boot store and stealing goods to the value of £3l 15s. A watch was kept by the manager and a detective, and they seized the accused after he had entered the warehouse by inserting a key in the door. GIRL FINED FOR ASSAULT. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 29. Gladys Victoria Carpenter was fin ad £2 to-day for assaulting John Sneddon. The police said that the girl admitted that she had been out to get her revenge. The pair had been keeping company, but evidently had parted. "While at a dance the girl rushed at Sneddon with la table knife. Had she not been stopped there was no doubt she would have injured him. Counsel for the girl said that sne had been treated very badly.
