BURDEN OF THE TAX. A CAUSE OF UNEMPLOYMENT. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Received 11.40 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Nov. 26. In the Assembly, the Hon. T. Riavin stated that up to date £57 1 ,000 iiad been collected under the Family Etndowmemt Act, and only £75,000 paid. Further claims would be paid as they were investigated. As showing the incidence of the levy, he said that enquiries had been made of 25 leading wholesale and retail manufacturing establishments and there revealed that the' tax upon them amounted £120,000 per annum, while the total disbursements to their employees was only £5500. He added that the Government had been told in many .quarters that the levying of the tax was unquestionably Clausing unemployment.
