PERSONAL ITEMS.

Adjutant and Mrs Campion, of the Salvation Army, Elthnm, who have been spending their annual holiday in Auckland, returned £o Eltham last night by motor.

Mr F. Lehrke, of Eltham, who has been on a two months’ holiday trip to Tahiti, returned a few days ago, looking very well and reports having experienced a most- enjoyable holiday. The Mayor of Eltham (Mr I. J. Bridgcr) :mdt the town clerk (Mr W. Waters) left for Wellington this .morning in connection with the council’s demand for exemption of the Borough of Eltham from the availability rate.

Mr. F. M. Whyte, who for some years has been in charge of the Public Trust Office in New Plymouth, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch and will leave for the South in a, few days. Mir. Whyte has been an enthusiastic supporter of Rugby football, a member of the executive and his help will be much; missed. Mr. Whyte was at one time on the Hawora staff.

The special train which ran between New Plymouth and "Wanganui yesterday to convey the Right Hon. L. C. M? S. Amery and party stopped for a few moments at Hawera, where it was joined by Mr. G. Huxley, the representative of the Empire Marketing Board. During the short stay the Mayor of Hawera (Mr. E. A. Pacey), who met Mr. Amery at New Plymouth on Thursday, introduced Mr. Amery to Mr. T. J. Salmon (president of the Hawera Rotary Club), Mr. G. A. Duncan (seretary of the Federation of Taranaki Dairy Factories), and Messrs. G. H. Buckeridge, A. K. Fyson, and R. C. Hay Mackenzie. Conversing with these gentlemen, Mr. Amery expressed) himself as very favourably impressed with what he had seen of the district and the signs of progress he had everywhere noted so far during his tour of the Dominion. The coach 'used by the Duke and Duchess of York on their recent tour of the 'North Island was provided for the use of Mr. Amery and his party.
