GREATER SERVICE.
A REMARKABLE CAR. The majority of the present-day motorists are laymen, but at the same time they Lane considerable interest in departures from conventional automobile design. The latest departure, and one which will have a big effect on the trend or future design is a French car that has just been brought before the public. Actually the designs were first thought out and shown in an experimental model way back in 1912, but, like many other inventions, it was tossed aside during the war period. The leature of this car is the method of springing each of the wheels independently in such a manner that the body is always horizontal. The frame itself is of tubular construction, and also serves to house the three coil springs used for suspending each of the wheels. Owing to the construction it is possible to have all four wheels at different levels and yet the body remains horizontal! The road wheels are articulated to the chassis, being free to move vertically. A differential is employed, and to compensate for the wheel movement the cardan shaft transmitting the drive to the road wheels incorporates a universal joint. Four-wheel brakes are used, whilst another leature of interest is the ingenius manner in which the steering problem has been tackled. Altogether the car shows that there are many ways in which the modem car can be improved to give greater service to users.
