An American writer, referring to> the timidity of the average golfer to "shoot” for the flag, says the country beyond the hole must be full of lions, jaguars, tigers, crocodiles, panthers and teem also w T ith snakes. "The only two golfers in America who are game toget a beyond the flag shot are Jones and Hagen,” he says. Making the world’s "Grandest Hole-in-Onc” by driving a golf ball into the steaming fire-pit of Kilauca volcano Ims become a popular pastime at Hawaii. Visiting golfers go to the volcano in crowds to gain membership. Halemaumati, which is the Hawaiian name for the fire-pit, is probably the world’s largest golf hole. It measures 1360 yards across and has a depth of 1200 feet. Despite its great size, many a visitor has duffed a shot from the rim, much to the merriment, of Hawaiian chauffeurs and Hawaii National Park guides, who act as temporary caddies. Not long ago a prominent Government official who tried the famous Hawaii National Park shot, took three strokes from the improvised tee, less than ten feet, from the rim of the firepit, .before sending the ball into the crater. Upon the successful completion of a, drive the volcanic golfer is presented w r ith a card admitting him to the "Hole-in-One Club of Kilauca Volcano.” The most economical floor and furniture polish is "Tan-ol.” Gives a dry, brilliant gloss that lasts for a long time. Does not smear. All grocers.—3
