One may not be able to make a silk purse out-"of a sow’s ear, but it is considered possible to make a pair of silk stockings out of a sow’s stomach (remarks the “Christchurch Sun”). This suggestion was put fre ward in all seriousness by the analyst for a freezig company when he was giving ‘evidence in an appeal case in the Magistrate’s Court-. He was dealing with the uses of a carcase, and in reply to a. question stated that- the only use,it would be possible to find for the stomach of a carcase was the manufacture ,of artificial silk for silk stockings.
