STOCK MARKETS.

GOOD BUSINESS RECORDED. OUTLOOK GOOD. Although this is tending towards the cniet time of the year, when business in stock is expected to slacken, there has been a very satisfactory record of business reported iii the world of stock, and, generally speaking, the conditions are gcod and prospects very favourable. All round prices are favouring the farmer. The dairy produce shows a strong position, backed by favourable weather conditions; the wool sales have opened better even than was expected; tue freezing works are opening next week, and already the prices assure a good return to the grazier—9d for lamb, 5-id for fat wethers, and 3RI for fat ewes; the prospects look better for beef than for some time, while pigs have shown a remarkable activity the whole season. Store cattle are still in demand, other districts operating freely, and this is likely to continue for some time.

There is little or nothing doing in daily lines, but good young Jersey grade bulls have sold well. The pig business, as indicated, has been very oood, despite the disappointing state of the world’s markets. Stores were in demand at the week’s sale, and probably the call comes from the- farmers who are home separating. There has been a noticeable increase in business from the district south of liawera, where there is a lot of home reparation. It is remarkable how the pig business hag developed this; year. The demand for the pedigree pigs from Hastings, sold at the Show, was very satisfactory, and the vendors expressed much satisfaction. Ha.vera is rapidly developing, as a pig centre, and it is worth notice that the display at the Show was stated to be the- test in the Dominion.

(toner ally. the position is one that must give cause for satisfaction to all classes of faumers, and through ili.?m to the business community as a whole. The Dominion needs a few good ecu-tons,

.■il l ,t is to be sincerely hoped that the people, bearing .in mind the lessons of the past, will be prudent in the Hires prosperity and prevent any recurrence of the orocTigal expenditure .\lvicli them occurred.
