I IMPRISONMENT FOR SHEEP STEALING. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) NAPIER, Nov. IS. Harold Thomas Addis, a, sheep farmer of Tikokino, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour for sheep stealing. Air Justice' Macgregor said that sheep stealing was becoming too common and difficult to put down. SENTENCES AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. IS. At the Supreme Court, Jensen, for common assault, was admitted to probation for 12 months. William Roy McDonald, formerly manager of the Christchurch branch of the Guardian Assurance Co., for theft of £215 from the company, was- admitted to probation for three years. Counsel for McDonald said that prisoner was a Dunedin boy, who was first employed in a solicitor’s office there. During his career of 23 years there had never been previous any question of dishonesty. The Judge said the prisoner mpst pay £33 costs of prosecution and take out a prohibition order and abstain from gambling. Samuel Phoenix Briggs, a law clerk, for theft of £337 from a client’s estate, was admitted to probation for three years. Leslie Stanniford Willetts, for theft, breaking and entering, was ordered 3 years’ detention at a Borstal institution. Alexander Francis Robinson, for theft of a. bicycle, was -given six months ’ imprisonment.. Prisoner had a record. Frank Russell, for obsence exposure aud indecent language, received two years’ detention. Archibald Swain, for forgery and false pretences, was sentenced to six months ’ imprisonment. UNLICENSED WHISKY STILL. AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. As a. sequel to a raid oil a whisky still at Mount Albert on Saturday, John MeSweeney pleaded guilty at the Police- Court,- to being in possession of an. unlicensed still, and John Newman Lyons pleaded guilty to having knowingly supplied an unlicensed still. Each was fined £25.
