FATALITY JN RIVER FEARED

SEARCH BEING MADE

Search is -being made for a man named Fleming, a farmer resident of Patea, who has been miiesiiicr since AVednesday evening last, when he -i-sjicv lieved to have attempted to cross the Patea River (then in a flooded condition) in a canoe in order to reach his farm. A canoe believed to be the one need by the missinp- man has been found "high and dry and unfastened, but there is no trace of Fleming, and it is feared that a fatality lias occurred. Constable Phillips was to-day engaged in dragging the river, hut u-p. to the time of going to press no discovery l had been made. The missing man is about 25 wears of age. He was recently married.
