CALEDONIAN SPORTS.

AT TAUMATA PARK, E'LTHAM. The annual Highland and athletic sports, under the auspices of the Taranaki Caledonian Sports Association, will be held at Taumata Park, Eltham, on January 28. This date is tentative, being the decision arrived at toy the association’s executive at a meeting held in El mam, at which there were present: Messrs W. IL. Kennedy (in the chair), Jamieson and T. iSmith (Stratford) ; J. Campbell, D. Clement and J. I?. Crawford (Eltham); W. G. Simpson, J. B. Laurenson and Anderson (Havvera). Ajiologies for absence were received from Messrs Morrissey and McCormack (Hawera). Mr T. Kirkwood (Stratford), representing the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, attended by invitation and discussed the items of the programme from an athletic point of view. A revised programme of last year’s sports was submitted. It was decided that the gathering will be conducted by the union, and not by an amateur body as was the case at Hawera. A band parade is included in the programme. The prizemoney offered will total about £l5O and keen competition is anticipated. Mr R. L. Garden was appointed secretary.
