THE SLATER CASE
GOVERNMENT READY TO AMEND ACT. .(Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Nov. 15. In the House of Commons, asked whether he intended to institute- an inquiry into the Oscar Slater .case, Sir John Gilmour replied that if the conviction had occurred isince October. 1926, he would he empowered to submit it to the- Court of Criminal Appeal. He was willing, if necessary, to make such legislation as was obtainable to refer only to the Slater case. Only a single clause Bill would be necessary, hut it could not he passed during the pie-sent .session except without discussion. The Government would wehoine any effort in this direction.—A.P.A. and “Sun.” [Oscar Slater has been -released from gaol after -serving 18j years of a life sentence for murder. An application to Parliament has been made for eomnensation for wrongful imprisonment.]
