INTERESTING CONVERSATION.

Seeing it chronicled in the Hawera paper that the leading retail grocers of that town had recently installed the most up-to-date bacon cutter that science had so far produced, J. C. Hutton, Ltd., a New Zealand firm, who are very much interested in the distribution of pure food in general, and bacon in particular, decided upon sending a representative to Hawera to interview the directors of this progressive firm, who trade under, and are famous in South Taranaki as, the Cut Rate. Our representative upon arrival in Hawera was fortunate in obtaining an interview with the Principal, Mr G. It, Horsburgh, who stated that it became an absolute necessity, through the large volume of trade, to either instal two ordinary bacon cutters, or an electrical one. To hear of such a large volume of trade being done in a country toh-n seemed to be notuing short of phenomenal to the representative who was interviewing this director, but upon a further examination of the store, plant, fixtures, and stock, It soon became patent how this firm had built up their wonderful trade.

Firstly, the representative had to acknowledge that in the whole of Australia, from which country he had just returned, there was not a single shop fitted with more hygenie fixtures, nor could such he possible. And unlike most firms 'who pride themselves upon their cheap prices, the Cut Bate of Hawera seems to carry only the highest grade goods. When this fact was commented upon to their . director, his reply was: “Although our prices are always the lowest in the North Island, we could pot afford to have any goods sold other than the best brands. Nor would we endeavour to sell any butter or bacon which did not carry the producer’s name.” This brought the conversation round to bacon, when the representative asked the director of the Cut Bate what effect the stocking of “SWAN” hams and striped bacon had had upon their bacon trade. The reply was that it had just about doubled what was an already very large bacon trade, “and since we stocked the celebrated ‘BATA’ butter and famous ‘©WAN’ bacon, we could not therefore improve the quality of our goods, so we decided to improve the quality of our service. Hence we installed me Berlcel Electric Slieer, which enables us to sell bacon in the most hygenie manner possible, the bacon never being touched by human hands.”

We are therefore able to give our patrons “SWAN,” New Zealand’s best bacon, stocked in New Zaeland’s most hygenie containers, and cut by one of the most hygenie bacon cutters in the universe.*
