WINDSCREEN WIPERS. There is a right and wrong way ■■veil of using an automatic windscreen wiper. it is a had principle, for instance. to allow the wiper to operate immediately the screen becomes spotted with rain. The theory ol the action of the wiper is that it does not actually remove all the wetness Jrom the glass, hut instead it coalesces- the indi- •, idua-1 spots of moisture into one even film, which, when spread over the glass, is transparent, and offers- no obstruction to vision. Unless the-screen m wet enough to allow this film to be armed, the smearing notion of the wiper makes- driving vision worse than would have- been the case- had the individual spots been left on the screen. Therefore* do not use the wiper until fhe screen is reasonably wet. Another point: It should he l>orne in mind that when another ear is being followed closely on wet roads- its wheels throw Tip minute- specks of unud that are not visible until they become deposited on the windscreen. Here, again, if the glass is- not- sufficiently wet the action of the wiper will he merely to .s-mear, which, of course, is worse than useless.
