The Yorkshire secretary, Air Toone, explains that in the first count of the voting for Sutcliffe’s captaincy, tine result was H Hawke, the chairman, did not exercise his casting vote, but simply asked for a recount, which resulted 13 to, 11 in favour of the professional captain. “The first 1 saw of Sutcliffe’s appointment was in the newspapers,” says Rhodes. “The honour apparently passed over my head. An interesting event in the cricket world will he the meeting of the New Zealand touring team with the next best- on Friday at Wellington. It should be an ‘attractive match, and naturally followers of the game will be glad to -see in action the team which has been playing against English and Australian teams and also to note the improvement shown as the result of that fine experience. Taranaki players will note, with pleasure that Kingston has been enabled to arrange to get away and to take his place as leader of The' Rest. He is a great wicketkeeper and a stylish batsman. He has had much experience as captain, and -should strengthen the team materially. The position of captain of the next best team in the Dominion will have added interest on this occasion because of the fact that the English professionals who are her© as coaches will be included in the team. The cricketers of Hawera will join with the rest of Taranaki in wishing_ Kingston success in his important position.
