PATEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, the Mayor (Mr P. S. Finlayson) presiding. Before commericing the business of the evening, His Worship referred briefly to the death of Constable H. D. Armour, remarking that by his great tact and gentlemanly manner he had earned the respect of everyone, and his behaviour as a citizen could with profit be copied by many. His Worship then moved “that this council extend to Mrs Armour and family its deep sympathy in their great bereavement.” Seconded by Cr A. J. Christensen and carried in silence.

The borough solicitor forwarded transfer from Hayward to Locker of certain property for completion, and His Worship the Mayor and Cr Ramsbottom were appointed to sign on behalf of the council.

The Electrical Supply Association wrote asking if the engineer intended joining the association. —Resolved that the council pay the subscription. A letter was received from Mr Adams, of Hawera, witb reference to replastering the interior of the walls of the Town Hall, estimating the cost at about £74, the council to erect all necessary scaffolding and to have walls scraped.—Resolved to hold over consideration for the present. The Medical Officer of Health notified that, owing to a rearrangement of departmental inspectors, Inspector Par--geter would take over the duties of Inspector Coleman for the Patea district. The engineer reported that the hydro plant had run for 696 hours during the month, generating 23,182 units. The Diesel plant had run for 26 hours, generating 935 units, making the month’s total 24,117 electrical units. Owing to the heating and sterilising required at the hospital, a change from 100 to 230volt standard had been necessary. A total of 954.400 gallons of water have been pumped at a cost of 2286 electrical units. It was advisable to institute proceedings against persons wasting water within the borough.
