PERSONAL ITEMS.

Two days’ leave of absence were granted to. the Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland) in the House, of Representatives, yesterday owing to ill health.

The many friends of Mr. B. L. Webby will regret to hear that he is at present in Wanganui Hospital, where he has undergone a slight operation for ear trouble. A further operation may have to be performed, and in the meantime Mr. Webby is remaining in Wanganui'. Mr A. Hunter, of Hawera, left for Christchurch by the mail train to-day to attend the Royal Show commencing at Christchurch to-morrow.

Mr F. de J. Clere, of Wellington, arrived in Hawera" yesterday on business in connection with the erection of the now Catholic Church. He stayed at the Egmont- Hotel and left for south this afternoon.

Captain Hugo, inspector of fire brigades in New Zealand, arrived in Hiwera last evening to conduct his annual inspection of the Hawera Brigade and Station. He staved at, the Egmont Hotel.

'Mr Don. Stewart, of Normanby, was a passenger by to-day’s mail train to Wanganui, where he will attend the annual A. and P. Show. 'Mr M. C. Crighton, secretary of the Egmont A. and P. Association, left today to visit the Wanganui show.
